EVOEVO@AU is operated by QCIF for ARCS' desktop video collaboration service.

This system enables people to use a single personal computer or laptop to share ideas, data and documents with others. It allows two-way video and audio communication between multiple meeting attendees. Meetings can be one-to-one – or have up to a dozen different sites attending.

EVO’s individual use differs from Access Grid’s group solution. EVO's benefits include:

  • High-definition video provides high-quality visual information
  • Meetings can be regularly scheduled, ad hoc or booked as one-time occurrences for convenience
  • Meetings may be password-protected for security
  • Desktop Streaming allows sharing of presentations, documents, web pages and computer program displays for enchanced collaboration
  • EVO connects to other collaboration services: Access Grid, Skype (currently audio only), ARCS National Telephone Bridge, and video conference systems such as Tandberg and Polycom usinh H.323 or SIP
  • Shared whiteboard enables on-the-spot visual aids (e.g. freehand drawing, writing, image annotation)
  • Shared files allows the transmission of data within a meeting
  • Text chat for instant messaging
  • User presence information displays users' status (online, away, in a meeting)
  • Configurable for, and auto-detects, low-bandwidth use
  • Easy installation and auto-updating for new releases

Requirements
Most modern machines should run EVO. Limited memory, processor performance and network capability may negatively affect the system. Users require a camera and headset or other audio input/output device. EVO can be used on Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.
