A number of sessions during the 2011 eResearch Australasia conference were recorded using EVO.

ARCS is making the recordings of these sessions available for download via the Data Fabric.

File formats

The recordings will be available in two formats:

1) EVO's native format and require the EVO Recording Player for viewing. You can download the EVO Player from the EVO@AU portal (http://evo.arcs.org.au) by selecting the button labelled "Recording Player".  You do not need to be registered as an EVO user to use the player.

2) As mpeg files that should be able to be played readily on a wide variety of operating systems and platforms.

Please note that the EVO recording format allows the recordings to be played at their original resolution - full HD for some of the recordings. The .mpg files are at lower resolution, but are available at smaller overall file size.

Using the EVO Recording Player

The EVO Recording Player is a Java application that allows one to play and view native-format EVO recording files. It makes use of Java WebStart to open, so your computer should have the latest version of Java.

  1. Firstly, download and unzip (on your own computer) the zipped EVO recording that you wish to view.
  2. Go to http://evo.arcs.org.au and click on the button "Recording Player". Note that you do not need to be an EVO user to make use of the Player.
  3. Either download the .jnlp file for opening later, or choose to open it now (your operating system should use Java WebStart to do so).
  4. Once the Recording Player has opened, go to "File", then "Open..." and browse to the location on your machine where you unzipped the EVO recording.
  5. Select the file that ends in ".evo", then click the "Open" button.
  6. The recording should start playing, with the video opening in a separate window called "ViEVO". You should be able drag the ViEVO window to where you want it on your desktop, as well as resizing it by grabbing the lower-right corner and dragging.
  7. You can adjust the audio volume by using the Volume slider in the main Player window.
  8. You can adjust the playback location by using the timeline slider in the bottom half of the main Player window.

Obtaining the files

For EVO recordings, you will need to download and unzip the zipped file for whichever presentation you wish to view. Clicking on the appropriate Data Fabric QuickShare link in the table below will start the download process from the ARCS Data Fabric, from where you can save the zipped file on your local machine.

The MPEG files are not zipped.

The recordings in this first table are all from the conference's Green Room, with the original video recorded at full HD. The EVO recordings maintain that high resolution, whereas the MPEG files are reproduced at a lower- though still good-quality- resolution.

(Note : Day and times are taken directly from the conference programme - see http://conference.eresearch.edu.au/program-2/)
