Access Grid
The Access Grid is an ensemble of resources and technology which provides a virtual collaboration tool. Simply put, an Access Grid can be used as an advanced type of videoconferencing facility that allows participants from multiple locations on the Internet to interact in real time. Though the Access Grid is simply more that "Video Conferencing on steroids", as it provides mechanisms to share data, collaborate using a variety of shared applications (such as sharing presentation material), utilize large-format displays and can employ multiple video sources to allow room - to - room conferencing capabilities.
This technology provides Access Grid participants the ability to hear and see each other, as well as share documents, in real time without delays. This provides an opportunity to work together when convenient, rather than having to travel to meetings or conferences around Australia and the world.
The Features
An Access Grid Room has many features, including:
- The ability to present/meet in a room to room type environment;
- The ability to collaborate with people in both Australia and all over the world, providing they too have an Access Grid;
- The ability for other technologies to be used, such as (but not limited to):
- Shared White boards
- SharedVNC
- Shared Presentation
- Provides an interactive environment where microphones do not need to be pressed, thereby giving the "feel" that everyone is meeting is in a single "virtual" room;
Access Grid Facilities
An Access Grid can be used by Academics, Researchers, Industry and Post Graduate Students.
The Access Grids can be used for, but not limited to the following:
- Collaborative research presentations and demonstrations;
- Collaborative meetings;
- Cross institutional teaching;
- Visualization modeling and demonstrations;
- Extremely large conferences and meetings with a large number of external sites connecting.
